Concrete Repair

There are many different scenarios that can require concrete repair. Here are some of the most common problems that we see and have plenty of experience with, that we can help you with:
  1. Cracking: One of the most common issues with concrete is cracking. Concrete can crack for many different reasons such as shrinkage, thermal expansion and contraction, and settling. These can be caused by both external factors such as weather and internal factors such as the concrete mixture itself. Not all cracks are necessarily harmful but they can definitely be an eye sore. Minor cracks can be repaired by filling or patching them. Larger or more severe cracks may require more extensive options such as concrete leveling or replacement.
  2. Spalling: Another common issue with concrete is spalling. Spalling is the flaking or chipping of the surface of the concrete caused by exposure to water and then going through freezing and thawing cycles. This can cause surface damage which can make the concrete more prone to cracking. The repair methods for spalling include cleaning, repairing and sealing the surface. If spalling is severe enough, replacing the slab or patching the surface may be necessary.
  3. Settlement: Another issue that concrete can encounter is settlement or settling which is caused by soil compaction or erosion. Settlement can cause the concrete slab to sink or become uneven, which can be eye sore and also create a dangerous hazard. In this scenario, the repair method used is typically concrete leveling (slabjacking or mudjacking) to lift and level the concrete slab.
  4. Corrosion: Concrete reinforcement can also be affected by corrosion. Concrete reinforcing steel (rebar) is like an internal framework used to increase the strength of the concrete and help it resist external forces such as wind and gravity. When rebar corrodes, it loses strength which can cause cracking and spalling in the concrete. To repair this, you will need to remove the corrosion before patching, reinforcing the slab with new rebar, or if necessary, replacing the slab.
  5. Stains or Discoloration: Concrete surfaces can also become discolored or develop stains due to a variety of factors such as exposure to chemicals, oils, or salts. Depending on the type and severity of the stain, solutions for this problem include cleaning and/or staining or resealing the surface can help improve the appearance of the concrete.
These are just a few examples of the types of concrete repair scenarios that can occur. Let us help you tackle your specific concrete problem and bring your concrete back to life with the appropriate repair method. Give us a call today!
